Air/Freight
Springfield-Branson National Airport
The Ozarks Transportation Organization area encompasses the Springfield/Branson National Airport. This airport is one of the fastest growing small hubs in the United States, moving almost 900,000 passengers in 2005. Currently, the airport works with the following
airlines: Allegient Air, American Eagle, Delta Connection, Northwest Airlines, and United Express.
Coming in 2009 will be the new Midfield Terminal. The new terminal will provide greater customer service and will initially have 8 gates with room to expand to 60. All services from parking to ticketing to getting on the airplane will be all on the same level as part of a growing effort to make public facilities more accessible.
For the new Midfield Terminal, a new access road of expressway standards will be needed. The design for this road is programmed for FY2007 according to the FY2007-2010 TIP.
Freight
The MPO will be conducting a Freight Study in FY2008. More information will be available with the development of the next Unified Planning Work Program.
The City of Springfield has already begun a Railroad Reconfiguration and Grade Separation Study. This study includes the crossings at Division Street, East Chestnut Expressway and James River Freeway, as well as the reconfiguration of tracks in the West Meadows section of Jordan Valley Park. Preliminary results include conceptualizations for these crossings, available on the Railroad Study
website.
